Man, we have gone so far around the bend of insanity, we can't even see the bend, any more. The level of duplicity, and down-right stupidity being exhibited by the pro-gun crowd has reached a level seldom seen in what once passed as a reasonable, intellectually advanced society (intellectually advanced...we should be ashamed to even fantasize that this applies to us).
Some of the statements made in just the last 24-48 hours have been so egregious, I cannot begin to put into mere words, how I feel. I am ashamed...I guess that is the best way to express it...shame!!!
And before the pro-gun folks show up, I own a small gun (.38 cal. derringer...ok, that might not be a real he-man kinda thing to some people, but it will do the job, may God spare me the day). You don't need a shit-load of guns, if you can use just ONE well enough to keep the bad guys at bay, at least till the Cops arrive.
But, that isn't good enough for some folks, and it isn't just their insane need for a National Guard armory in their basement. No, they have to make sure that everyone knows about it, and to show them off every chance they get. And when they aren't doing all that, some of the more vocal insist on flooding the air-waves with threats to over-throw the Government, and kill anyone and everyone who thinks different !!!
And we have politicians that are more concerned with either gaining public office, or holding onto the one they have, rather than doing the right thing by a majority of the American citizens. These bastards should be run out of office, and barred rom ever being elected to another one, for they care more about their office, and the salaries and benefits and perks, for life, that go along with it. They would sell their souls (hell, most already have) to hold on to office, and don't give a flying fuck what to those who put them there, think (well, as long as it isn't the NRA...they give a real BIG flying fuck what the NRA thinks) !!!
It galls the living piss out of me that I have to be, however remotely by virtue of being born in the same country, as those who have cheapened human life by some of the most callous, obnoxious and idiotic proclamations this country has witnessed since racists used to excuse their racism and hatred by claiming a segment of the world population in general, and that of the United States of America in particular were inferior, and needed to be subservient to US white folks !!!
Yes, that WAS a long sentence, and I still couldn't wedge in all the disgust I feel !!! And I in no way mean to lessen the hate, the degradation, and the senseless violence perpetrated on African-Americans (or Native-Americans, for that matter). But that is the level of my anger, folks !!!
We USED to be better than this, people...at least I want to believe we are/were better than this. But we as America, and Americans have lost something...something vital, and I don't know if we can get it back. I pray we do...I'm just not holding my breathe!!!
