I read the article by Killfile of the little girls in a Chicago suburb who, gasp, gave away free lemonade to total strangers (presumably) on a hot day. It really touched me that three young kids would have the empathy for others to do such a thing. It wasn't an earth-shacking, life-altering thing, it was just three young kids having fun and doing, possibly, God's work, in a child's simple way !!!
Many times we do what God would have us do, for others, things that we do not realize AS God's work. You don't have to build a monument to God by hand, or feed the hungry with every nickle in your bank account, ect. to be about your Father's work. It very often is the small things that may be more important to God, if I may be so bold. Being gentle-hearted to thoseyou encounter, lending a hand when it is most needed, and just thinking how the things we do might affect others is so important. thinking of someone else's needs as well as our own.
Thursday, my twin brother, Lon, picked me up at the train station in Cleburne, texas, from a trip i took down to the Austin area. We live in Glen Rose which is about 22 miles from Cleburne. On the way home, and just outside the city limits, we saw a guy struggling with two very large duffel-bags, heading towards Glen rose. Lon stopped and asked him where he was headed, and he replied that he was on his way the our local hospital in Glen Roes. Since we were in Lon's welding rig, and since there was no room in the truck, Lon told him to hop on back.
We took of, and hit town and dropped the guy off at the Glen Rose Medical Clinic. Lon helped the man with his bags and they disappeared into the main lobby. Meanwhile, I'm sitting outside getting cranky for Lon taking so friggin'long. Finally Lon comes out and gets in and I think we are finally headed to my apartment, after all I'm hurting like hell, and need to lie down....QUICK !!! I am really pissed because Lon is just really taking his sweet time, and I am what matters here...RIGHT!!!
Well, Lon passes MY apartment, and I ask him where he is going, NOW. he said he is going to the bank, and I am pissed to beat all hell. Lon withdraws some money and heads back to the Medical Clinic. I am feeling a little...small by this time, and pissed...at myself. Lon has withdrawn one hundred dollars and we are heading to give it to the hitcher we picked up.
I fully admit my...meanness, for being aggravated at my brother for taking too much time getting me home. I was wrong, and I felt bad at myself for my ugliness toward one of God's own. But what my brother did, with no regard for himself, was doing God's work, folks. It was a beautiful act of generosity towards a fellow human being who at THAT moment, needed it the most !!!
What has this to do with the three little girls and lemonade??? Everything, it would seem. You see, an idiot writer published a piece where she tells the seyoung girls that they should be selling their lemonade instead of giving it away, because, well...hell THAT'S the American way, by god, and these three little bolsheviks need to be taught a lesson !!!
And here in Texas, I am getting mad because my brother is doing God's work!!!
