Two old men...they have been friends since they were kids. They have been through hell and most of Texas together, and are still the best of friends. Here is a bond, time and life cannot break...good friends !!!
One is ram-rod straight. And though time has slowed his pace, makes his step more cautious than in earlier times, it is sure. The other is bent from age and infirmity, his step shuffling. He is still quite agile mentally, but time has taken it's toll on him. He needs a cane for balance, and his step is often uncertain...but they are still friends, and this is all that matters.
The more able-bodied of these two men, helps his friend, his pal, when he needs that help. He helps him get out of the car, taking care to see his friend doesn't slip, or that the knees don't buckle under his weight. When they walk, the stronger keeps his hand on his friends arm, to steady him, to be there in case his friend stumbles...they are two men, who love each other as brothers.
We have all seen such men, in our communities, our cities. We don't notice how they care for each other, how gentle they are with each other. We don't notice how they help each other do the day-to-day things we take for granted. They help each other with groceries, or getting to the doctor, or to the pharmacy, for their needs.
And we don't realize the bond such men have, for we may not have formed such bonds, and we are so much poorer for it. Because these men will always have someone who cares...someone who will be there, when no one else will.
There is something...tender, about such men. Something gentle, loving. To watch such men care for on another is the most heart-warming thing you will witness, on any given day. But they do these things everyday, and without grudge, or complaint. They have lived full lives, and have little regret, even in the face of death, which gets closer each day.
They are preparing for their next assignments, in Heaven, where they will someday be...this is certain. God has a special place for such men...such good friends!!!
